DAY THREE
| We wanted an early jump on parking so we got to the venue EXTREMELY early and set up shop in one of the many surrounding hotels (where they serve a lovely breakfast). We ate, finished waking up and moved the show to the hotel lobby where we both had work to complete for our other jobs. So Ted Raimi walks by and we had just seen his cameo in MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN so we called out to him to praise him on his skill at getting murdered (this isn't a spoiler. When you see the movie there's no pretense that he won't be dead shortly.). He was extremely cool, a total comic book fan and REALLY impressed with Todd's art (and why not?). We chatted for awhile, WAY longer than either of us expected, tossed him a copy of the ashcan and then he went off to do whatever it is these movie people do when we're not watching them. We worked out our game plan for who we would approach with our project and how. It's always good to know who you want to meet and try to time things so you can catch them early in their day rather than late. We walked over to the venue and who should we run into but one Javier Grillo-Marxuach, creator of MIDDLEMAN? Nice guy, kickass show. We told him so and had a quick, really friendly chat there as well. Wacky. Then we hit the floor. We checked on the status of the meetings we'd set up the day before- all still GO. We pinballed around the convention floor, rushing those remaining publishers on our list who had escaped our sights the day before. Things went, again, AMAZINGLY well so we decided to take a break, drop in on the RED 5 COMICS booth and tell the ATOMIC ROBO guys how freaking amazing they are. And they are. And they were. Go buy their book. Then we sat in on the infamous BLACK PANEL followed by the considerably less infamous BET PANEL where we saw scenes from the upcoming animated BLACK PANTHER series. AWESOME about describes that. Then it was food and back to work. it would be nice to talk about the premieres and the big announcements that came out during those three days but we just never had our heads up long enough to hear any of that. So that's it. There was some eating and some drinking (Genre 19 is strictly non-alcoholic) and some very nice conversation with people we only see once a year and then we dragged our sorry butts back to base camp. As we said, we had extremely realistic, even conservative goals for the Con this year. We can safely say that those expectations were exceeded to the Nth. We are still having trouble processing it. There's a bit more news but it has to stay under wraps for now. Trust us, when it's okay to break it, this will be the place. |
