STUFF WE LIKE!
| Although this blog is basically about us and how to find us and our stuff, we thought it might be cool to devote Fridays to something other than our own fame and glory. After we get this one little announcement out of the way... THE JADORE INTERVIEW IS UP you can read it RIGHT HERE Okay? Now then. One of the things we like is MARVEL'S COSMIC LINE  That's NOVA, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, INHUMANS and the random minis and one-offs that focus on folks like the Imperial Guard. While everyone's been cheering or jeering about BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY, Abnett & Lanning and their cronies have managed to not only reconstitute Marvel's "least appealing" and "least relevant" characters but they're churning out the best set of interconnected books since, well, honestly, we can't remember the last time anyone did it this well. MOVIES  Well, we all know IRON MAN 2 drops this weekend. Today in fact. We expect good things. We'd just like to remind everybody that movies like this are meant to be enjoyed on their own merits. If you go in with a checklist to make sure the filmmakers hit every point of comic book Iron Man lore or reproduce the characters precisely as they've been presented over the last few decades, you're in for some disappoint. Take the thing for what it is and, you know, HAVE FUN. We're big fans of fun around here. It's sort of the caged singularity that makes our engine go. PODCASTS This is probably a Geoff thing this week but it fits in with the Genre Nation's ongoing obsession with what we call Neo Pulp. So please put your attention this week on two awesome 'casts.  These mad Canadian Bastards are doing some of the most fun, action/adventure, detective superhero drama that's come down the pike since, well, frankly, 1945. If you like our New School Pulp, you should dig in on their Old School.  These mad American Bastards are doing something equally fun but considerably more whacky down here in Lost Angles. Series creator Mike Coleman walks a fine line between whimsy and straight-up, balls to the wall adventure of the pulp-tastic kind and you really are missing out if you're not on this already. And, of course, there is the new entry into the unofficial company theme song contest: |
